Participants needed for crochet workshops for the creation of a full-sized cow
Plymouth writer Laura Horton and designer Natasha Jenkins will be holding crochet workshops on Friday 7th, Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June, inviting participants to drop in and contribute towards the creation of a full-sized knitted cow that will form part of the Horton’s world premiere show Lynn Faces which will premiere at Edinburgh Fringe before returning to Theatre Royal Plymouth in Spring 2025.
The workshops will be held at Barbican Theatre Plymouth in their studio space on Friday from 10am – 4pm; at Plymouth Proprietary Library on Saturday where there will also be a coffee morning from 10.30am – 1.30pm; and at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel on Sunday from 10am – 4pm.
Lynn Facesis a moving show about the aftermath, echoes, and effects of an abusive relationship - all through the lens of Laura’s long-time identification with Lynn Benfield (the long-suffering assistant in Alan Partridge) and punk music. Working with Trevi House to encourage discussions about coercive control and abuse.
During the days there will be a chance to chat and crochet, no experience is necessary with Natasha Jenkins on hand to teach skills, people of any abilities are welcomed to join. There will also be a raffle, with prizes including theatre tickets for Barbican Theatre, gym membership at BLOCK, dinner vouchers at Cosmic Kitchen and sessions with a Dietician. People will also be invited to play £1 to suggest names for the cow.
The Plymouth Proprietary Library was founded in 1810 and is one of the oldest surviving private subscription libraries in Devon and Cornwall where members can read and borrow from a wide collection including books on local history, biographies, a maritime collection, and the latest works of poetry and fiction. There are two talks a month and a range of regular activities.

Melanie Williams from the Duke of Cornwall said: "The Duke is delighted to be able to offer support for Laura’s theatre show. We have had the opportunity to hosts events with Trevi House in the past, so when we were approached about being involved, we were only too pleased to offer our assistance again to help raise awareness of the challenges individuals face in abusive relationships. I am sure the show is going to be fantastic, and we are looking forward to seeing the final production.”
