A programme created to explore and build a new model of distributed leadership.

The Creative Leadership programme challenges dominant models of hierarchical leadership in ways that support the development of Plymouth’s cultural ecology.

On its pilot year (2024), it benefited 40 Creative Leaders in Plymouth and the surrounding area by delivering five steams of activity: Mentoring, Bursaries, Action Learning, Events and a Focus Group.

We’re very pleased to be continuing the programme in 2025/26. The programme is now focusing on building and supporting a network of creative leaders across the city through a series of leadership events and networking opportunities.

We invite you to the latest event in our fantastic Creative Leadership Programme.

Are you a creative leader looking to challenge traditional power structures and cultivate more equitable, collaborative practices in your organisation or community? Join Jamie Pett for an interactive workshop exploring practical strategies for unlocking the potential of distributed leadership.

In this 2-hour session, we'll dive into the complexities of shifting power dynamics and governance. Through group activities and guided discussions, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Discover tools and frameworks for mapping power dynamics in your context

  • Learn about what ‘healthy power’ can look like

  • Examine the barriers and risks involved in disrupting entrenched hierarchies

  • Collaborate with peers to respond to common scenarios

  • Reflect on your own role and agency in catalysing change

Whether you're a seasoned leader or an emerging creative practitioner, this workshop will provide a supportive space to rethink assumptions, share experiences, and develop plans for change.

Session Structure:

  • 10.30am - 11am: Arrival, tea and coffee and a chance to informally chat.

  • 11am - 1pm: The two hour session will include small group work; working in pairs; and quiet time for individual reflection.

  • 1pm: Finish.

Jamie Pett Biography:
Jamie Pett is a freelance facilitator, coach and consultant. He aims to contribute to the emergence of a more equitable, regenerative future. He has gradually learned about how power dynamics are everywhere through experiences like being an economist in Zanzibar and a Co-Chair of a charity board. Jamie is now part of the Stewarding Group of the Transformational Governance Collective - whose vision is of a world where the ways we organise and work together are based on trust, care, and equity - for the good of all beings and the planet. He is also the learning partner for the Summerfield Community Chest - an initiative to distribute £6m by engaging communities in Gloucestershire. Having grown up on a dairy farm near Launceston, Jamie returned to the South West last year and lives with his Dutch wife and fluffy cat near Exeter.

Access:
The session will be in Workshop 2 in Ocean Studios, on the first floor. There is a lift to all floors, and level entry on the ground floor. There are accessible gender neutral toilets. There is blue badge parking available in Royal William Yard.
