Fire and Ice come to Royal William Yard

A new wellness business is opening soon, just metres from the water’s edge, at Royal William Yard. Hálogi – a seaside sauna company – is bringing its wood-fired sauna to Plymouth for the first time, offering a new therapeutic and tranquil escape in the city. Heating up the next bank holiday, the sauna will open its doors on Saturday 4th May, offering FREE sessions* to celebrate its arrival.

Hálogi’s sleek and innovative sauna is a cleverly converted horsebox, heated by a Finnish stove that maintains a constant 90°C temperature, and with space for up to six people. A contrast of fire and ice, three cold water tubs offer a rejuvenating ice bath plunge between or after sauna sessions – or users can head straight into the sea for a refreshing dip.

With a Sauna and Wellness Host on hand to greet and guide guests, a covered changing area, and deckchair seating all part of the set-up – this is poised to become a must-try new relaxation experience. Hálogi’s new home at Royal William Yard is right by the designated official bathing water of Firestone Bay, popular with the sea swimming and paddleboarding community.

Halogi will open its sauna doors throughout the week from 9am onwards - and plans to offer late-night sessions to coincide with full moon swims and paddles. The website will list opening times and booking details. Guests can unwind solo, with friends, or as part of communal bookings – each session lasts one hour, with recommended spells of 8-10 minutes in the sauna followed by a 5-minute break, ideally spent in the water or relaxing in a deckchair.

Founder of Hálogi, Ross Jackson, is bringing the business to Royal William Yard from its previous home at Berry Head in Brixham. Initially arriving as a mobile sauna, there are also plans in the pipeline to develop a new, permanent sauna building on site, with dramatic views overlooking the sea and Drake’s Island.

Ross says, “This is an unforgettable wellness experience and we can’t wait to bring what we do to an amazing new location. Our sauna, ice baths and other treatments allow our customers to truly relax – it’s a seaside sanctuary. We look forward to welcoming people along to experience our blend of warmth, sea, and tranquillity for themselves.”

Niall Ingham from Urban Splash adds, “Royal William Yard is know for being a unique setting, for doing things differently, and for being at the heart of the coastal community – so Hálogi is a truly welcome and apt new addition. This is home to a vibrant variety of independent businesses, all bringing something different and exceptional to make this an incredible place to visit, work or live.”
