Discover Plymouth's 146 unique Pink Plaques using innovative interactive map
An exciting new interactive map has been unveiled in Plymouth which shows the locations of 146 unique Pink Plaques in shop windows and places of interest in and around the city centre and waterfront areas.
The Pink Plaques project, a celebration of everything that is great about our city, is the brainchild of local artist Kate Entwistle, with support from Mayflower 400 Community Sparks funding, Plymouth City Council, The Box, Vital Sparks and Plymouth Culture.
In a humorous twist to the traditional Blue Plaques (permanent fixtures commemorating key historical figures, events and places) Pink Plaques commemorate those more unusual, real-life stories and memories from members of the public.
They include the infamous day in 2016 when Sue’s shopping bag broke, causing her to lose five tomatoes and a cucumber down the drain!
And who could forget that time Batman perused the comic books in Final Frontier, or when Dudley Dursley popped into Rockets & Rascals for cake and coffee every day for two weeks?
Pink Plaques also honours local ‘legends’ like Clive the Big Issue seller and his dog, Geezer, who became a big hit on their patch outside the Theatre Royal and even starred on the Drum Theatre's stage in 2019.
In its first year, Pink Plaques featured only 50 plaques which were displayed across the city for just three days; some of the original plaques have been recreated for this second installation which will remain in place throughout the summer.
