Devonport Guildhall & Column

Real Ideas took on the restoration and reimagining of Devonport Guildhall in 2007, opening its doors to the public in 2010 as a space for events, co-work and community activity.

Following the renovation and reopening of the Guildhall, work began to restore the neighbouring Column which opened to the public in May 2013, allowing visitors to climb the 138 internal spiral steps to reach the viewing platform for the first time since the 1970s.

It seems inevitable that social innovation and justice will forever be part of the fabric of Devonport Guildhall. From being the first ‘Mechanics’ Institute’  in the city to nurturing and growing the contemporary social enterprise movement in Plymouth, Devonport Guildhall is the place for people to share ideas and develop work to create positive social change.
