dBs The Sound & Music Institute
dBs' Plymouth centre is the original dBs Campus and as you can imagine, over the years has built up an impressive kit list of pro-audio equipment from the world’s leading manufacturers. There are 7 recording studios, 7 DJ suites, 150 iMacs loaded with Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Logic Pro and Native Instruments software that is constantly being expanded and updated. Students also have access to a massive array of bookable microphones, analogue and modular synths, keyboards, effects, and production equipment including our flagship Neve Genesis mix console.
The centre is a hub for production, live and electronic music, innovation in technology and forward thinking creatives in the area. Our fantastic tutor team include chart topping record producers with over 13 UK top 10 hits (including 6 number 1s), Pro-Tools, Apple & Ableton certified trainers, multi-instrumentalists, modular synthesis experts, sound designers and world renowned DJs/producers.
The Plymouth campus is also home to the modular research group, a team of innovators who design and develop new devices that push the boundaries of music technology both in the studio and on the stage. Students get the opportunity to be involved in the process of developing new pieces of tech alongside the group.
The campus hosts a comprehensive guest lecture programme that has included masterclasses from David Cherry (BAFTA nominated for work with Sir David Attenborough), Phil Harding (UK/USA Billboard multiple 1 record producer), Killer Hertz (international drum & bass artists), Ableton Live and many more leading industry professionals.
