Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, talk and creative workshop

  • The Box Tavistock Place Plymouth, England, PL4 8AX United Kingdom (map)

Samuel Coleridge-Taylor was an exceptionally talented mixed-race musician, composer and conductor who was popular in the early 19th Century, most notably for composing classical music with African themes.

In this 30 minute presentation WonderZoo will be explaining how Samuel Coleridge-Taylor travelled from London on Great Western Railways to Newton Abbot, Devon, to conduct a concert of his most famous work, 'Hiawatha', in 1902. There will be audio clips of his music.

We will then be doing a creative workshop, with art and/or writing, reflecting on the themes of the talk and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's life.

There are 12 spaces only. Please message us at wonderzooarts@gmail.com or on Facebook Messenger to book your place.
