Plymouth Culture works on and support many projects, events and initiatives to help develop Plymouth’s cultural scene.
Grants for the Arts
We assist and help with Grants for the Arts applications to Arts Council England. This involves advising on applications, bringing potential partners together and writing letters of support. In 2015, the total amount of funds granted to successful Grants to the Arts applications rose by 137% in Plymouth.
“Plymouth Culture has been vital in supporting, bringing together and promoting the cultural sector in the city internally and externally. It has been a game changer in terms of their approach to supporting culture, through being an enabler, connector and broker.” – Birgitte Aga, i-DAT
In 2020, it will be the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower sailing from Plymouth to found the modern United States of America. Plymouth is the host UK city for the Mayflower 400 celebrations – Plymouth Culture is leading on the cultural developments of this momentous occasion. We have funded and supported the yearly Illuminate celebrations, have met with cultural and civic institutions in Boston and Plymouth, Massachusetts and we are currently supporting the development of joint international projects between the UK and USA.
“Their advocacy regionally, nationally & internationally is taking effect with links across the Atlantic Arc Cities and the USA. This work is slowly building the strong cultural platform that will be the beating heart of our vibrant 21st century waterfront city.” – Sheila Snellgrove, CEO, Barbican Theatre
